Welcome to AP English IV!

After 26 years at the Junior High, I am very excited to be teaching at the high school!  I have planned a great year for us, and I look forward to teaching you again.  My goal is to give you the strong foundation in analytical reading and writing that you will need in college and for the rest of your life.
An Ap Literature and Composition course engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature.  Through the close reading of selected texts, students deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. As they read, students consider a work's structure, style and themes, ans well as such smaller-scale  elements as the use of figurative language, imagery symbolism, and tone.
The course includes intensive study of representative works from various genres and periods, concentrating of works of recognized literary merit.  Reading in a AP course is both wide and deep.  This reading successfully builds upon the reading done in previous English courses so that by the time students complete this course, they will have read works from several genres and periods--from the 16th to the 21st century.
We will begin the year studying ancient literature and heroic quests.  I will add details to this page throughout the year, so this is the page you need when you have questions about assignments.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me. We are going to have an awesome year, and I can't wait to see you!
