Pleasanton High School Art Department
High School Students need one fine art credit and several elective credits to graduate. Pleasanton offers a number of classes in the Visual Arts to satisfy this requirement. Students may take Art I, Art II Drawing, Pre AP Art II, Art III/IV Painting and Art II/III Sculpture or AP 2-D Studio Design/ AP Drawing/ AP Sculpture, and Commercial Photography.
Research shows that students who take fine arts classes perform better on standardized tests. In addition, students will learn about art history, artists, careers in art and art styles and trends. They will develop skills in composition, design, drawing, sculpting, and painting. Most importantly, they will increase their ability to think critically, solve visual problems and make informed judgments.
Art kits will be available for purchase in the art department for $20. Kits include tools and supplies tailored to the needs of individual courses.
