Pleasanton High School Earns Honor Unit with Distinction Designation
During JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA)

The Pleasanton High School JROTC Eagle Battalion  was awarded the Honor Unit with Distinction  on 5 February 2021for an exemplary performance during their Tri-annual JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA).  The JPA inspection was conducted by 5th ROTC Brigade, headquartered at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

All cadets in the JROTC Program, which includes students from Pleasanton, Jourdanton and Poteet High School spent the last several months preparing for the JPA with numerous internal competitions and events to help achieve a battalion-wide goal of excellence.  All cadets prepared a portfolio that captures numerous examples of lessons learned in JROTC, personal goals, academic resumes, and accomplishments that will remain with them throughout their entire JROTC experience.  Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the traditional face to face JPA was modified, however events such as a battalion internal drill and ceremony challenge, uniform inspection competition, daily cadet staff collaboration and Cadet Portfolio development ensured 100% of the cadets had a hand in the overall success of the battalion during the JPA.

The Eagle Battalion’s score of 96.9% is the best in the history of the school.  Eagle Battalion cadets will proudly wear the gold star for the next 3 years to display the sense of pride and accomplishment from attaining the Honor Unit with Distinction designation.

PLEASANTON, TX – On December 17, 2021, the Pleasanton High School JROTC Eagle Battalion participated in Wreaths Across America at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, which has 160,000 gravesites. Annually, Wreaths Across America invites hundreds of participants nationwide to lay wreaths on the gravesites of service members to honor their service. Twenty-three Eagle Battalion cadets had the honor of laying hundreds to pay respects to the fallen by laying wreaths with dignity and respect. Cadets read the individual's name, branch of service, military awards and their dates of life aloud as an outward expression to pay tribute to each service member for their service. Six of our cadets had the added honor of laying wreaths at the headstones of Medal of Honor Awardees and former Prisoners of War. This was Pleasanton High School JROTC’s third year supporting Wreaths Across America and this tremendous experience continues to be one of the top highlights of the school year for our cadets.
